A 15-year-old dog was reunited with her owner in Doral, Florida, after being missing for more than a decade, following a routine intake scan at Miami-Dade Animal Services.

The reunion was announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday, January 20, where officials said the dog, Buttercup, was identified through the information stored on her microchip. Photos shared with the post showed Buttercup back with her owner after more than 10 years apart.

Miami-Dade Animal Services highlighted the importance of keeping microchip details up to date, noting that accurate contact information can make the difference between a lost pet remaining missing and a successful reunion.

According to WSVN, Buttercup was found on January 12 and brought into the shelter system. The report added that the owner had previously lost two dogs and believed Buttercup had died before learning she had been located.

The story follows another recent case of a lost pet traveling long distances, including a cat that reportedly made a 155-mile journey back home in France after going missing in Spain.
