A major recall involving frozen fried rice sold at Trader Joe’s has expanded to include dozens of additional frozen foods produced by Ajinomoto Foods North America.

The grocery chain confirmed on March 3 that several frozen products are being removed from shelves after the manufacturer warned they may contain foreign material.

The issue involves possible glass contamination, which led the company to broaden an earlier recall that initially affected frozen chicken products.

Ajinomoto said the expanded recall now includes about 33.6 million additional pounds of frozen ready-to-eat and not-ready-to-eat foods. Together with the earlier recall announced on February 19, the total now reaches nearly 37 million pounds of frozen products.

Affected items include chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumplings sold under brands such as Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe’s. Some products were also distributed in Canada and Mexico.

The company said the issue surfaced after receiving multiple consumer complaints reporting pieces of glass in certain products. No injuries have been reported so far.

Customers who purchased the affected items are advised to throw them away or return them to stores for a full refund.
