Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone and one of the biggest changes to the company’s smartphone lineup in years.
The device features a 5.4-inch outer display that unfolds into a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner screen, which Apple says is around 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display. When opened, the Duo becomes Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date.
Both screens support ProMotion, Always-On functionality and peak outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Apple has also added a nano-texture finish to the inner display to reduce glare and make the fold crease less noticeable.
The iPhone Duo is built from Grade 5 titanium and uses a hinge made from more than 100 components. It carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, while Touch ID is integrated into the side button instead of Face ID.
Apple has redesigned iOS 27 specifically for the foldable format. Split View allows users to run two apps side by side, save app combinations and even open multiple windows from the same app.
Major apps including Netflix, Zoom and Slack are being adapted for the larger display.
The folding design also introduces new camera features. Users can take selfies with the rear cameras while using the outer display as a preview, while Duo Preview lets people being photographed see the image before it is captured.
The phone is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Apple says the Duo offers up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro, supported by a custom vapor chamber cooling system.
For photography, the Duo includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera with 2x optical-quality zoom and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main camera can also record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second.
Apple placed a battery on each side of the foldable and claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display or 44 hours using the outer screen. Wired charging can bring the battery to 50% in about 20 minutes.
The iPhone Duo will be available in Star White and Night Sky. Pre-orders begin October 16, with the device launching October 23 at a starting price of $1,999.
