Baltimore Sues Musk’s xAI Over Grok Deepfakes

The city of Baltimore has sued Elon Musk’s xAI, alleging its Grok chatbot generates nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfakes, including images involving minors. The lawsuit claims xAI misled users by promoting Grok as a safe, general-purpose AI tool while it allegedly became a major source of harmful content on X.

According to the complaint, millions of realistic explicit images were generated in a short period, including thousands involving children, despite policies that supposedly restrict such content.

Baltimore argues this violates consumer protection laws and poses serious risks to privacy and public safety.

City officials are seeking court-ordered changes to Grok’s design and financial penalties, while regulators in multiple countries have also begun investigating the platform. xAI has not formally responded to the lawsuit but previously stated it has implemented restrictions and denies knowingly allowing illegal content.
