Project Prometheus, a secretive AI startup co-founded by Jeff Bezos, is raising around $10 billion in new funding, targeting a valuation close to $38 billion. The round is still ongoing and could change, while the company has declined to comment.
Launched in November, the startup focuses on “physical AI” — systems designed to operate in real-world industries like manufacturing, aerospace, and semiconductors, rather than purely digital tools like chatbots.
The company is co-led by Vik Bajaj, a former Google X leader and Stanford adjunct professor. Since its launch, Project Prometheus has already raised $6.2 billion and is actively hiring talent from rivals like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and xAI.
Bezos is also reportedly exploring a much larger investment vehicle — potentially up to $100 billion — to back companies that could benefit from the startup’s technology.
Despite entering a crowded AI race alongside players like Anthropic, the company’s scale, ambition, and backing position it as a serious new contender.
