A nearly $150,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the prosecution of whoever has been mysteriously poisoning trees in a wealthy Lake Tahoe community.
Since 2022, 28 trees at Burnt Cedar Beach in Incline Village have reportedly been damaged or poisoned. The area is known for its wealthy residents and property owners, including prominent billionaires.
Officials estimate the damaged trees are worth roughly $300,000. A $147,000 reward is now available for information that leads to the successful prosecution of those responsible.
Investigators believe diesel fuel may have been used to poison the trees. According to local reports, 72 holes were drilled into 28 trees, allegedly allowing the substance to be poured inside.
Information must be submitted by March 31, 2027, and result in a successful prosecution within two years of being provided to qualify for the reward.
So far, authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or announced an arrest, leaving the repeated tree poisonings an ongoing mystery.
