A blind man who never held a driving licence has been banned from driving after police caught him drunk behind the wheel following a 150-mile journey.
According to ITV News, 49-year-old Anthony Hall was stopped by police in the early hours of June 29 after officers saw a car drifting between lanes on the route from Huddersfield to Carlisle.
When questioned, Hall admitted he had been drinking. A breath test found he was around three times over the legal alcohol limit. Prosecutors told the court that Hall, who is registered blind, said he managed the journey by following the lights of heavy goods vehicles.
Hall also admitted taking his partner’s car without permission. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, drink-driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and taking a vehicle without consent.
Despite never having held a licence, the court imposed an interim driving ban. He could also face up to two years in prison for the dangerous driving offence under UK law.
