OpenAI is reportedly testing a new premium ChatGPT subscription called Pro Max, priced at $500 per month.
References to the unreleased plan have appeared in hidden code, internal logs, and screenshots circulating online. Independent researchers and AI leak trackers spotted the “chatgptpromax” identifier along with references to the $500 monthly price.
If accurate, Pro Max would cost 25 times more than the $20 ChatGPT Plus subscription and $300 more than the existing $200 Pro plan.
The biggest reported difference appears to be speed. Leaked screenshots suggest Pro Max could provide faster access to OpenAI’s Work and Codex tools, which are designed to handle complex, multi-step tasks and software development. Other rumored benefits include maximum memory allocation and 100GB of file storage.
Some reports also suggest the plan could use Cerebras hardware to deliver faster AI inference. Cerebras has promoted its wafer-scale processors as significantly faster than conventional GPU-based systems, raising questions about why the additional performance would command such a large price increase.
The rumored $500 price would also put OpenAI well above competing premium AI subscriptions from companies such as Anthropic and Google.
However, OpenAI has not publicly announced ChatGPT Pro Max or confirmed its price, features, or release date. For now, the plan remains based on leaked code and screenshots rather than an official announcement.
