A Chinese automaker has secured a patent for a voice-controlled toilet designed for use inside vehicles.
The concept reflects a broader trend in China’s electric vehicle market, where manufacturers are adding unconventional features like massage seats, karaoke systems, and built-in coolers to stand out.
Seres, based in Chongqing, filed the patent on April 10 with the China National Intellectual Property Administration. The design outlines a compact toilet system hidden beneath a passenger seat, which can slide out either via a button or voice command.
According to the filing, the system includes ventilation through a fan and exhaust pipe to remove odors. Waste would be processed through heating—evaporating liquid and drying solids—before being stored in a tank that requires manual emptying.
Engineers say the feature is aimed at long-distance travel, camping, or situations where users may need to remain inside their vehicles for extended periods.
