Disney is moving away from Microsoft's GitHub Copilot, deciding to stop using the AI coding assistant across its US operations starting in August.
According to an internal message obtained by Business Insider, the company informed select employees on Tuesday that GitHub Copilot, along with several other AI coding tools, will no longer be used by Disney's US teams. The change does not affect Disney's international offices, where existing tools will remain in place.
The decision is another setback for Microsoft's AI ambitions. GitHub Copilot has been one of the company's flagship AI products for software developers, but it has faced growing competition from rivals such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude, which have gained stronger adoption among developers and businesses.
While Disney has not publicly explained why it is replacing GitHub Copilot or which tools it plans to use instead, the move reflects a broader trend of companies reevaluating their AI software as newer models continue to improve.
For Microsoft, losing a major customer like Disney highlights the increasing pressure to keep Copilot competitive in the rapidly evolving AI market.
