Disney-owned ABC has sued the Federal Communications Commission, accusing the agency of retaliating against the network over its content and violating its First Amendment rights.
The lawsuit follows an FCC review of ABC’s broadcast licenses launched earlier this year. ABC argues the investigation is politically motivated and claims the government has repeatedly targeted the network over reporting and commentary it dislikes.
The FCC says the review is focused on possible violations connected to Disney’s DEI practices and maintains that broadcasters must operate in the public interest.
The legal fight also signals a shift in Disney’s strategy under CEO Josh D’Amaro. While former CEO Bob Iger was criticized for taking a more cautious approach to political pressure, D’Amaro’s Disney has become more willing to challenge the administration directly.
ABC is now asking a federal judge to pause the FCC’s review, escalating the dispute into a broader fight over government influence, broadcast licenses, and free speech.
