Emirates has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore-based cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com to introduce digital currency payments for flight bookings. The agreement will allow Emirates customers to use Crypto.com’s services to pay for tickets with cryptocurrency, aiming to appeal to younger, tech-savvy travelers and support Dubai’s ambition to become a leading hub for digital assets and crypto-finance.

Key Details of the Deal

The new payment option is expected to go live in 2026, with more details to be shared as the launch approaches. Under the MoU, Emirates and Crypto.com will work together to integrate Crypto.com Pay into Emirates’ payment systems. This will enable travelers to pay for flights or other services with crypto, offering greater payment flexibility.

The rollout plan is still being finalized. It is yet to be decided whether the service will launch globally or begin on select routes and markets. Once operational, any cryptocurrency payment made by customers will be instantly converted to UAE dirhams (AED) at real-time exchange rates during the transaction.

Signing Ceremony and Leadership Comments

The agreement was signed in Dubai in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group. Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates, signed on behalf of the airline, while Mohammed Al Hakim, President of Crypto.com’s UAE operations, signed for the crypto firm.

Adnan Kazim emphasized that Emirates is responding to evolving customer preferences, noting that digital currencies are increasingly popular among young and tech-oriented travelers. The partnership is also aligned with Dubai’s broader strategy to lead in financial innovation and technology.

Crypto.com President and COO Eric Anziani highlighted the significance of partnering with a major global airline. He noted that the collaboration will help make crypto payments part of everyday spending while paving the way for new financial products and services for customers.

Promotional and Educational Campaigns Planned

Beyond integrating crypto payments, Emirates and Crypto.com plan to run promotional campaigns to raise awareness and encourage adoption. These initiatives will also aim to educate travelers on how to use crypto payments securely and conveniently.

Dubai is already positioning itself as a regional hub for cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation, with many local businesses—from real estate developers to telecom companies—accepting crypto payments. The government has supported this growth through clear regulations and an investment-friendly environment.

Implications for the Airline Industry

Emirates’ move could set an example for other airlines and travel companies considering crypto payment solutions. If successful, the partnership may accelerate industry-wide adoption of cryptocurrency as a mainstream payment option. For travelers already using crypto, this initiative promises a faster and more flexible way to pay for flights, making travel more accessible to a new generation of digital-first customers.
