Meta is expanding paid subscriptions across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, introducing new features that were previously free while also placing some Meta AI tools behind usage limits and paywalls.
According to reports, Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus will cost $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus will cost $2.99. Facebook subscribers will gain features like longer-lasting Stories, animated reactions, and rewatch tracking.
Instagram’s paid tier adds more controversial features, including the ability to preview someone’s Story anonymously without appearing in the viewer list, spotlight Stories for extra reach, and extend Story visibility beyond the normal 24-hour limit.
Meta is also testing AI-focused subscription plans called Meta One Plus and Meta One Premium, priced at $7.99 and $19.99 per month. These plans unlock higher limits for image and video generation as well as expanded access to Meta AI’s “Thinking mode,” which free users will now face restrictions on.
For businesses and creators, Meta is testing even more expensive plans that boost visibility in Facebook and Instagram search results and allow clickable links inside Instagram posts and Reels, a feature not available on free accounts.
The move marks a major shift for Meta, which spent years promoting its apps as free platforms while investing heavily in AI infrastructure and new monetization strategies.
