Spanish football manager Robert Moreno has responded after being accused by his former club of relying on AI to run every major aspect of the team.

Moreno, who was sacked by FC Sochi in August, was accused by the club’s CEO, Andrei Orlov, of using ChatGPT to make key decisions, including training schedules, team selection, and travel planning. Orlov claimed AI-generated programs even kept players awake for extended periods, describing ChatGPT as one of Moreno’s main decision-making tools.

Moreno has firmly denied the allegations. He said he never used ChatGPT or any AI system to prepare matches, choose lineups, or select players, stressing that all sporting and human decisions were made by him and his coaching staff. He acknowledged using standard analysis tools such as video, data, and scouting, but said these were only used to organize information.

Claims that a player signing was driven by AI were also rejected by Moreno, who said the decision was a club-led process overseen by the sporting director and approved by the coach.
