A Ford employee says he was fired after being accused of stealing a $1.95 cookie, only for the company to later confirm he had paid for it.

Kurt Kromm, 60, had worked at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant for 11 years when security footage allegedly led the company to believe he had taken a cookie from the break room without paying.

Kromm said he bought the cookie during an overnight shift after his blood sugar dropped. When the first self-checkout appeared to reject his debit card, he used a second kiosk, completed the purchase, and returned to work.

A few days later, he was informed that Ford planned to terminate his employment over the alleged theft.

After checking his bank records, Kromm found a $1.95 transaction matching the purchase and provided the payment records to the company.

Ford later verified the payment with the break room's kiosk operator, acknowledged that the cookie had been paid for, and offered Kromm his job back along with back pay.

Kromm declined the offer and instead accepted a new job elsewhere.

In a statement, Ford said it does not comment on individual cases but acknowledged that some situations are later found to have been handled differently.
