Google’s Gemini is rapidly closing the gap with ChatGPT after reaching nearly 950 million monthly active users, marking one of the fastest growth streaks in the AI race. The app has gained roughly 300 million users since late 2025, with Google saying daily usage has tripled over the past year.
The milestone comes as Google continues to pour billions into artificial intelligence, rolling out faster and more efficient Gemini models while integrating the chatbot across Search, Android, Workspace and other products.
The company recently introduced Gemini 3.6 Flash, designed to deliver stronger coding performance at lower operating costs, even as its more advanced Gemini 3.5 Pro model remains delayed.
Although ChatGPT still leads with around 1 billion monthly users, the gap between the two AI giants is shrinking quickly.
Gemini’s rapid adoption highlights how aggressively Google is leveraging its massive ecosystem to compete in the generative AI market, setting up an even more intense battle for AI dominance.
