Google has sued an alleged cybercrime operation accused of using AI-powered tools to run massive phishing campaigns targeting mobile users.

The company claims the group, known as Outsider Enterprise, created more than 9,000 fake websites, registered around 1 million fraudulent domains, and sent 2.5 million scam text messages in just two weeks.

The messages allegedly impersonated trusted brands and directed victims to convincing fake websites designed to steal passwords, credit card details, and authentication codes.

According to Google, the operation affected hundreds of thousands of people and caused millions of dollars in losses. The company says the phishing platform allowed criminals with little technical knowledge to launch scams using hundreds of pre-built templates that mimicked banks, retailers, telecom providers, and government agencies.

Federal investigators estimate the broader operation may have contributed to the theft of nearly 3.9 million credit cards and roughly $1.9 billion in losses since 2023.

Google says it is working with mobile carriers and law enforcement while deploying AI-powered security tools that now block more than 10 billion scam messages every month.
