A man was arrested after climbing onto the roof of a hospital in Wales dressed in what witnesses described as a Grim Reaper costume, frightening patients, visitors, and staff.
The incident took place on June 6 at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital in St Asaph. Witnesses said the man, 26-year-old Leon Gillespie, was dressed entirely in black, carrying a long blade, making noises on the roof, and staring down at people gathered below near the hospital entrance.
Gillespie later claimed he was dressed as a crow rather than the Grim Reaper.
Police and fire crews responded to the scene before safely bringing him down from the roof. He later pleaded guilty to causing a nuisance without reasonable excuse on NHS premises.
A magistrates' court fined him £200 (about $269) for the hospital incident.
During the hearing, the court also heard that Gillespie had previously admitted to stealing £30–£40 worth of cat food and litter from a pet store, as well as food and drinks from a supermarket in separate incidents. Those offenses resulted in additional fines, court costs, and compensation payments.
Following the case, the local health board reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward abuse, aggression, and disruptive behavior on hospital property.
