An Egyptian tour guide was arrested after carving a drawing into the Pyramids of Giza while explaining the site to visitors, then attempting to wipe it away.

Despite strict rules against touching ancient monuments, the guide marked the base of one pyramid to illustrate his explanation. The act was caught on video and sparked backlash online.

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior said the man was detained and admitted to the incident. Officials confirmed that the markings were removed and legal action was taken following a report from a local antiquities inspector.

Access to the Pyramids is tightly controlled, typically requiring official permission or a licensed guide.
