A California homeowner could face fines of up to $100,000 after an illegal fireworks display went viral on social media.
The massive show took place in Sacramento during the Fourth of July celebrations and quickly spread across TikTok and Instagram, with some viewers comparing it to Disneyland because of the sheer number of fireworks.
According to Sacramento fire officials, the display included illegal fireworks launched from the back of a U-Haul trailer. Authorities said they monitored the event using drones and ground crews, watching the display and documenting each violation.
Under Sacramento's fireworks ordinance, fines start at $1,000 and increase for repeat offenses, with additional penalties for setting off fireworks near parks or critical infrastructure. Officials say the total could reach $100,000 depending on the number of violations.
The viral footage sparked mixed reactions online. Some argued the potential fine was excessive because no damage was reported, while others pointed to the risks fireworks pose to people, pets, wildlife, and air quality.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether the homeowner will receive the maximum penalty.
