China launches broadband network with a whopping 10 Gbps speed

China's first 10G broadband network was introduced in Sunan County, Hebei Province, by Huawei and China Unicom.

In reality, 10G broadband is a fixed-line internet standard mostly provided over fiber optic networks. The "G" here stands for gigabit, not generation. The new high-speed internet service is powered by advanced 50G PON (Passive Optical Network) technology.

This huge infrastructure upgrade has taken internet speeds from gigabit to a mind-blowing 10G, cutting latency down to just a few milliseconds.

In real-world scenarios, the new network proves its worth

An actual demonstration showed that a household with the new 10G broadband network could get upload rates of 1,008 Mbps and download speeds of 9,834 Mbps.

The latency was as low as three milliseconds.

This showcase highlights how effectively this advanced technology can provide users with high-speed internet services.

This is a big step for China's internet infrastructure

The rollout of this 10G broadband network is a huge leap in China's online infrastructure. It is best suited for homes and businesses with very high data demands, like 8K streaming, AR/VR, gaming, and remote work.

This innovation could transform internet access for Chinese users, delivering faster connections and reduced latency like never before.

Still, China is positioning the 10G rollout as a proof of concept, with broader national deployment on the horizon. It puts the country well ahead of the curve – Australia and many other nations are still working to expand 5G coverage, let alone discuss commercial-grade 10G networks.
