Richard Pulley, a 78-year-old from Tennessee, went viral after being spotted doing DoorDash deliveries to support himself and his wife, Brenda, who lost her job. While he handles deliveries, she drives, turning it into a necessity rather than a side hustle.
After a TikTok video of him gained attention, a GoFundMe was launched to help the couple retire. Donations quickly surged, raising $300,000 in the first 24 hours and eventually reaching $950,000 from supporters around the world.
The couple said they were overwhelmed by the generosity, with the funds helping cover living and medical expenses. DoorDash CEO Tony Xu also reached out, and the company contributed $20,000.
Despite the support, Richard said he’s completed over 6,000 deliveries and isn’t ready to stop just yet, though he may finally take a break.
