Jensen Huang Says Nvidia Is Open to Backing OpenAI IPO

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company would be eager to invest in a future OpenAI IPO and rejected claims of tension between the two firms. Speaking on CNBC’s Mad Money on Tuesday, Huang said there was “no drama” between Nvidia and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Huang pointed to Nvidia’s September agreement with OpenAI, under which the chipmaker plans to invest up to $100 billion in the AI company. He added that while no IPO has been announced, Nvidia would welcome the opportunity to participate if OpenAI eventually goes public.

Calling OpenAI a “once in a generation company,” Huang said Nvidia is “delighted to invest in it” and dismissed reports of internal concern at Nvidia as well as claims that OpenAI was unhappy with Nvidia’s newer chips, labeling the speculation “nonsense.”

His comments followed reports from The Wall Street Journal that some Nvidia executives had questioned the scale of the investment, and from Reuters that OpenAI had explored alternative chip options. Altman pushed back on those reports, saying OpenAI loves working with Nvidia and plans to remain a major customer.

OpenAI remains one of the world’s most valuable private AI companies and a key driver of demand for Nvidia’s chips. While the startup has not confirmed IPO plans, its rapid growth and massive computing needs continue to fuel speculation about how it will fund future expansion.
