A massive KitKat shipment theft turned into one of the year’s strangest viral moments after trucks began traveling with high-security convoys like elite cargo.

In March, thieves stole over 12 tons of KitKat bars — more than 400,000 units — quickly drawing global attention. What could have been a routine cargo theft became a viral story.

Nestlé responded by activating batch tracking codes on each bar, allowing the company to trace stolen products if scanned.

But the real attention came when KitKat trucks in Canada were seen moving with full security escorts, including black SUVs and hired guards. Videos of the convoys spread rapidly across social media, with many questioning whether it was real or staged.

The company later confirmed it was a marketing campaign created by Courage, designed to play into the viral heist and turn it into a humorous, attention-grabbing moment.

Despite the campaign, the stolen chocolate shipment is still missing, with Nestlé continuing efforts to track it down.
