Filou the cat has gone viral after an extraordinary journey that saw him survive alone on the streets of Spain for five months, after escaping his owners’ camper during a summer 2025 road trip.
Patrick and Evelyne Sire were devastated when their black-and-white cat disappeared during a rest stop in Catalonia, likely slipping out through a window left slightly open while they refueled.
Despite returning to the area, working with animal welfare groups, filing reports, and searching extensively, Filou seemed to have vanished without a trace.
As weeks turned into months, the couple reluctantly accepted the possibility that they might never see their pet again.
Then, in late 2025, Filou reappeared just a short distance from their home in Olonzac, France, after traveling more than 250 kilometers on his own. A local school teacher had been feeding the exhausted cat for weeks before taking him to a veterinarian, where his microchip revealed his identity and home address.
