A Michigan man won a $1.05 million lottery jackpot after accidentally purchasing tickets for a game he had been actively avoiding.
The 68-year-old from Oakland County said he usually asks cashiers for any Fast Cash game except the Detroit Lions-themed lottery because he had never had much luck with it. However, during a recent purchase, he forgot to mention the exclusion and was given a Detroit Lions ticket instead.
That unexpected choice turned out to be life-changing.
“When I buy Fast Cash tickets, I tell the cashier to give me any game except the Detroit Lions game because I hadn’t been having luck with it,” he explained. “I forgot to say that this time, and that’s the game he printed for me.”
The ticket ended up matching the jackpot, earning him just over $1 million.
The winner said he typically buys tickets when the jackpot grows above $700,000, but never expected the game he avoided to deliver the biggest prize of his life.
Following the win, he said he plans to use the money to help take care of his family.
