Meta has unveiled a new AI coding agent called Muse Code, entering the growing competition with Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex.
Announced in beta on Wednesday, Muse Code is powered by Meta’s new Muse Spark 1.2 model and is designed to handle software engineering tasks such as writing code, running tests, and validating results with minimal supervision.
Meta says the tool is built as a lower-cost alternative to competing coding agents. The standard version of Muse Spark 1.2 costs $1.25 per million input tokens, $0.15 per million cached-input tokens, and $4.25 per million output tokens.
The company is also offering a discounted Contributor tier, where user activity can be used to improve Meta’s AI models. While this may appeal to individual developers and startups, businesses working with proprietary code may prefer the standard plan.
Meta’s Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, described Muse Code as “one of the most affordable coding agents on the market” in a post on X.
The launch comes as AI coding assistants have become a major battleground. Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex have gained widespread adoption by helping developers write, test, and manage software more efficiently.
With Muse Code, Meta is aiming to win over developers by offering similar capabilities at a lower price point.
