Elon Musk’s conflict with Sam Altman has escalated, with Musk now seeking Altman’s removal from OpenAI through new court filings.

Musk, who sued OpenAI in 2024, claims he was misled into contributing millions under the promise it would remain a nonprofit. In filings dated April 7, his legal team also pushed to remove president Greg Brockman, arguing both leaders should be dismissed if the court finds misconduct.

They are asking the court to strip Altman from the nonprofit board and remove both executives from the for-profit arm, stating such action is standard when leaders fail to uphold a charity’s mission.

Musk also wants OpenAI returned to nonprofit status, saying he co-founded the organization and contributed about $38 million. The case could head to trial later this month in California.

OpenAI has rejected the claims, calling the lawsuit a power-driven move aimed at slowing down a competitor.
