Elon Musk says SpaceX plans to start building its own gas turbine components as demand for electricity from AI data centers continues to surge.
The move would push SpaceX beyond rockets and spacecraft into energy infrastructure, giving the company more control over the equipment needed to generate power for increasingly energy-hungry AI systems.
As tech companies race to secure enough electricity for massive data centers, turbines and other power-generation equipment have become increasingly important. Musk’s plan suggests SpaceX could use its manufacturing expertise to produce critical components internally rather than relying entirely on outside suppliers.
The expansion also highlights how the AI boom is creating opportunities far beyond chips and software, with energy generation becoming one of the biggest challenges facing the industry.
