NASCAR has launched a new “Swear Jar” promotion for the 2026 Cup Series playoffs, adding $5 to a fan prize pool every time a driver swears over team radio.
The promotion runs across all 10 playoff races, beginning with the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on September 6.
Fans can submit predictions for the total number of expletives recorded during the postseason. The person with the closest guess will win the full amount collected by the end of the playoffs.
NASCAR estimates at least 200 swear words could be recorded, creating a minimum prize of $1,000. Former driver Corey LaJoie jokingly predicted a much higher total of around 2,160 expletives, which would push the prize pool to roughly $10,800.
The promotion marks a major shift from NASCAR’s past approach to profanity. In 2004, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was fined $10,000 and lost 25 championship points after swearing during a Victory Lane interview.
