Heavy rain and severe storms have triggered deadly floods and landslides across India and Nepal, killing dozens and leaving many others missing.
In India, at least 56 people have died, 46 have been injured, and more than 1,000 homes have been damaged. Uttar Pradesh received nearly nine times its normal rainfall over a two-day period, while several major rivers rose above danger levels.
Nepal has also been hit hard, with 14 people killed and 11 reported missing. Authorities warned that 49 of the country’s 77 districts could face flash floods as rivers continue to rise.
The flooding has caused widespread power outages and damaged telecommunications and infrastructure. A 40-megawatt hydropower project was also damaged after the Rahuganga River flooded.
Meanwhile, another disaster struck northern Nepal, where an avalanche buried the base camp of Himlung Himal. Ten local workers who were preparing tents for foreign climbers were reported missing.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing as authorities warn that further flooding remains possible.
