A Major Boost for New Jersey’s Film Industry
Netflix has officially started building its $903 million film and TV production studio at the former Fort Monmouth Army base in Eatontown and Oceanport, New Jersey. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 13, 2025, with co-CEO Ted Sarandos and Governor Phil Murphy in attendance.
The 289-acre studio campus will feature 12 soundstages, totaling nearly 500,000 square feet, along with production offices, a hotel, retail stores, a theater, water tanks, and a dedicated campus for talent and crews.
Construction in Two Phases
Phase one begins in Oceanport’s 29-acre McAfee Zone and includes four soundstages and essential facilities.
Phase two, which will add the remaining eight soundstages, is set for review by Eatontown’s planning board in August 2025.
The full project is expected to create up to 3,500 construction jobs and 1,400 permanent roles. It could contribute between $3.8 billion and $4.6 billion to New Jersey’s economy over the next two decades.
Netflix will benefit from $150 million in tax incentives and may qualify for a 40% tax credit by committing to operate the studio for at least 10 years. Oversight and zoning changes have been managed by the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalisation Authority, with a strong emphasis on preserving the site’s historic parade grounds.
