Nvidia’s proposed investment of up to $100 billion in OpenAI has stalled after internal concerns were raised within the chipmaker, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Nvidia had announced the potential deal in September, which would have provided OpenAI with major funding and priority access to advanced chips needed to train and operate its latest AI models.

According to people familiar with the matter, the two companies are now reassessing the partnership, with current discussions focusing on a possible equity investment of tens of billions of dollars as part of OpenAI’s ongoing fundraising round.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has privately stressed that the original $100 billion proposal was non-binding and never finalized. He has also expressed concerns about OpenAI’s business discipline and growing competition from rivals such as Google and Anthropic.

An Nvidia spokesperson said the company remains OpenAI’s preferred partner and expects to continue working together. OpenAI declined to comment.

Meanwhile, major tech firms including SoftBank and Amazon are pursuing their own investments in OpenAI, as the startup seeks up to $100 billion in new funding at a valuation of roughly $830 billion.
