OpenAI wants to sell more of its technology to large enterprises, and now it is taking that push directly into the legal industry.
ChatGPT maker is preparing to launch new integrations with third-party legal software companies, citing people familiar with the matter. The move could allow lawyers and law firms to use ChatGPT alongside specialized legal tools as part of their everyday workflows.
The expansion comes as OpenAI looks to deepen its presence in professional industries where companies are willing to pay for advanced AI tools. Legal work is a particularly valuable market because firms handle large volumes of contracts, research, documents and client information that could potentially be assisted by generative AI.
OpenAI has also been building out its legal expertise. In July 2026, the company hired Jason Boehmig, the co-founder and former CEO of legal technology company Ironclad, as part of its push into the sector.
The planned integrations would put OpenAI in closer competition with specialized legal AI companies as well as other major AI developers seeking to become embedded in professional workflows.
