Police in Philadelphia are searching for a masked suspect accused of frightening and harassing several people while wearing a face covering resembling the horror character Chucky.
The incidents happened in the city’s Center City area over roughly 20 minutes. Police believe at least six people may have been approached, although only one alleged victim has formally come forward.
Surveillance footage captured one encounter in which the masked individual allegedly chased a female jogger.
Police say the suspect approached her and asked, “Are you ready to die?” The woman reportedly ran away screaming for help and injured her leg while trying to escape.
Philadelphia Police Capt. Jason Smith said the suspect appeared to target people at random, approaching both men and women during the early-morning incidents.
Investigators also noticed the suspect holding a cellphone and believe he may have been recording the encounters. Police are now checking social media for videos that could help identify him.
Surveillance footage briefly showed the suspect pulling down the mask and exposing part of his face. Police described him as a Black male with a thin build, around 5 feet 8 inches tall, and believed to be between 16 and 20 years old.
If arrested, police say he could face several charges, including terroristic threats, harassment, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and intimidation.
