A priest in Pittsburgh has been arrested after allegedly stealing about $1,000 worth of sports cards from a Walmart by hiding the packs under his clothing.

Aidan Smith, the head priest and dean of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Pittsburgh, is accused of taking trading cards from a Walmart in Economy Borough on five separate occasions.

Police say he was caught with 27 packs of baseball cards concealed under his clothes and inside a cardboard box when he was arrested on February 27.

Authorities say surveillance footage also showed him stealing cards on several days leading up to the arrest. Smith now faces charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property.

In addition to the police case, the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh has opened its own investigation. Smith has reportedly been on administrative leave since January for undisclosed reasons.
