Sam Altman is facing backlash after sharing what he called a "cool" way for parents to use ChatGPT.
The OpenAI CEO suggested connecting family calendars to ChatGPT and having it generate a personalized podcast for the morning drive to school. The AI-created episode could mention a child's soccer game, an upcoming birthday, family plans, and other daily updates.
The idea quickly drew criticism online. Many users argued that AI shouldn't replace conversations between parents and their children. One of the most popular replies came from Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch, who wrote: "What if you just talked to your children?"
Others echoed the sentiment, saying AI should save parents time—not become another layer between families.
Altman has previously spoken about relying on ChatGPT after becoming a father in 2025, saying it helped answer questions about newborn care and developmental milestones. He has also said future generations will grow up far more capable because they'll learn to use AI from an early age.
Some parents support using AI for organizing schedules, childcare logistics, and household planning, while critics argue its role should stay behind the scenes rather than replace everyday family interactions.
