SpaceX’s IPO filing revealed that Elon Musk’s future bonus depends on more than just financial performance. One of the biggest conditions is tied to SpaceX’s long-term goal of helping humanity colonize Mars.
Musk has repeatedly argued that humans must become a multi-planetary species to survive potential extinction events on Earth. That vision has become central to SpaceX, the aerospace company focused on reusable rockets, lowering space travel costs, and eventually building a human presence on other planets.
According to the filing, Musk’s compensation package depends on SpaceX hitting massive valuation milestones between $400 billion and $6 trillion, while also progressing toward moving one million people to Mars.
Instead of a traditional salary, Musk would receive additional company shares if those goals are achieved. Based on SpaceX’s targeted $1.75 trillion valuation, his current stake could eventually be worth around $735 billion.
SpaceX officially filed for its IPO on May 20 and is targeting a Nasdaq listing that could become one of the largest public offerings in Wall Street history.
A major part of the plan revolves around Starship, the massive rocket designed to transport people and cargo for future Mars missions and long-term colonization efforts.
