Spotify is launching a new artist verification system to bring more transparency to music in the AI era.

The platform confirmed it will roll out a “Verified by Spotify” badge, along with new profile features that give users clearer insight into artists and their activity.

This move builds on recent transparency tools like SongDNA, expanded credits, “About the Song,” and AI credit disclosures.

The badge will appear on artist profiles that meet Spotify’s standards for authenticity and trust. To qualify, artists must show consistent listener engagement, follow platform policies, and provide clear signals of being a real person—such as tour dates, merchandise, and linked social accounts.

At launch, profiles focused on AI-generated or AI-persona artists will not be eligible. Spotify said verification decisions will combine platform data with human review to identify artists operating in good faith.

The company is also testing “Artist Profile Protection,” a feature that gives artists more control over their profiles to prevent misattributed or unauthorized content.

The badge will roll out in the coming weeks, appearing as a light green checkmark in profiles and search results. Spotify says over 99% of artists users actively search for will be verified at launch, including a large share of independent creators.

Verification will expand gradually, so some profiles may not show the badge immediately.

Alongside this, Spotify is introducing a new “artist details” section in beta, highlighting career milestones, release activity, and touring history. Designed like “nutrition facts,” it aims to give users a quick snapshot of an artist’s presence and engagement.

The update comes shortly after an AI-generated song with human-written lyrics reached the top of the iTunes charts, highlighting the growing need for clearer distinction between real and AI-driven music.
