Tesla Robots Could Become First Atom-Shaping AGI

Elon Musk says Tesla could be one of the first companies to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) and potentially bring it into the physical world through humanoid robots.

In an early-morning post on X, Musk wrote that Tesla will be among the companies to build AGI and “probably the first to make it in humanoid/atom-shaping form,” positioning the company as a major contender in the race for human-level AI.

AGI refers to AI systems capable of performing a wide range of intellectual tasks at a human level, including reasoning, planning, and learning, rather than being limited to a single function.

The claim places Tesla alongside major AI players like OpenAI and Google DeepMind, despite Tesla being widely known as an electric-vehicle manufacturer. Musk argues that Tesla’s vast real-world data from Autopilot and its Dojo supercomputer give it an advantage in developing advanced AI.

Musk also emphasizes what he calls a “humanoid/atom-shaping” approach. The idea connects to Tesla’s humanoid robot project, Optimus, and advanced factory automation capable of physically interacting with the world.

Instead of viewing AGI as a purely digital system, Musk envisions intelligent machines that can assemble, weld, and manipulate objects with human-like dexterity—bringing AI directly into physical tasks and manufacturing.
