TikTok has quietly rolled out a new standalone app called PineDrama, signaling a deeper push into short-form storytelling beyond its core platform. The app is now available on iOS and Android in the United States and Brazil.
PineDrama is built entirely around microdramas — fictional series told through one-minute, vertical episodes that play like bite-sized TV shows. Each clip functions as an episode within a larger storyline, rather than a one-off video.
The app is free to download and currently has no ads, though monetization features may be added later.
Inside PineDrama, users can explore content through a Discover tab with All and Trending filters or scroll an infinite personalized feed based on viewing behavior. The platform offers multiple genres, including thriller, romance, and family dramas, with titles such as Love at First Bite and The Officer Fell for Me.
PineDrama also borrows familiar features from streaming services, including Watch History and Favorites, making it easy to follow ongoing series. Viewers can comment on episodes and switch to a full-screen mode that removes captions and interface elements for a cleaner viewing experience.
The launch follows TikTok’s introduction of a TikTok Minis section within its main app last year, which first exposed users to microdramas. With PineDrama, TikTok is now directly competing with dedicated microdrama platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox.
The microdrama format has grown rapidly and is projected to generate $26 billion in annual revenue by 2030, according to Variety, standing in contrast to earlier short-form streaming experiments like Quibi, which shut down just months after launching in 2020.
