Uber plans to introduce electric air taxi rides in Dubai through a partnership with Joby Aviation, letting users book all-electric flights directly in the Uber app.

The new service, Uber Air powered by Joby, will appear alongside traditional ride options. Joby expects to begin carrying passengers in Dubai in 2026 as part of the rollout.

Eligible routes will display the Uber Air option in the app, automatically linking ground transport — including Uber Black pickups and drop-offs — with air travel.

Joby’s aircraft can carry up to four passengers and will be flown by a certified commercial pilot. Designed with large panoramic windows, the cabin aims to be quieter than conventional helicopters. The aircraft uses six tilting propellers for vertical takeoff before shifting into forward flight, reaching speeds of up to 200 mph and a range of about 100 miles per charge.

Uber and Joby have collaborated on urban air mobility since 2019. In 2021, Joby acquired Uber’s Elevate division to support market planning and multi-modal transport development.

The companies plan to expand electric air taxi services to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan, pending regulatory approval. Before launching in the United States, Joby must complete Federal Aviation Administration certification, having already logged more than 50,000 miles of flight testing.
