A group of villagers in India tied a telecom technician to a cell tower after reportedly dealing with poor mobile service for nearly two years.
The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh, where residents said they had repeatedly faced weak or nonexistent 5G coverage despite previous attempts to fix the problem.
Videos shared on social media show the Jio technician restrained near the tower while villagers demanded that senior company officials come to the area and resolve the issue.
One resident said the network problem had continued for two years and claimed that mobile service was often unavailable even when electricity was working.
The villagers said they would not release the technician until company representatives arrived and provided a permanent solution.
Police later intervened and freed the technician the same day.
According to local reports, six villagers were taken into custody following the incident.
Authorities described the situation as a hostage case, while the suspects reportedly faced charges including wrongful confinement and breach of peace.
The technician also filed a complaint over the incident, which could lead to further legal action against those involved.
