Warner Bros. has filed a countersuit against a YouTube movie critic who accused the studio of wrongly taking down his review of The Batman.
The dispute began after critic Andrew Dayne Sosa uploaded a review of the 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson. The video was later removed from YouTube following a copyright takedown request from Warner Bros.
Sosa sued the studio, arguing that his review was protected under fair use and that the copyright claim was improperly used to remove his content. After Warner Bros. withdrew the takedown notice, the video was restored, but Sosa claims it never regained the audience it lost while offline.
Warner Bros. argues that the review included copyrighted material, including an official Batman poster and screenshots from the film. The studio has now responded with a counterclaim accusing Sosa of copyright infringement.
A federal judge has allowed Sosa’s amended DMCA misrepresentation claim to proceed, while Warner Bros.' counterclaim will also move forward. The legal battle remains ongoing, and neither side's allegations have been proven in court.
