Waymo is launching a $30 monthly membership that gives riders perks like priority pickups, cash back, and early access to new cities as it expands its stand-alone robotaxi business.
The new program, called Waymo Premier, will initially be available in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Members will receive faster pickup times, 10% Waymo Cash back on rides, up to five free cancellations per month, and access to new markets before they open to the general public.
Waymo says the service will be offered to tens of thousands of riders through its own app and will not be available in cities where rides are booked through Uber, such as Austin and Atlanta.
The launch is part of Waymo’s broader push to build a direct relationship with customers as it expands into new cities without relying on ride-hailing partners. The company is also preparing to introduce its purpose-built Ojai robotaxi, designed with extra passenger and luggage space.
The move comes as Uber continues to promote a hybrid model that combines human drivers and autonomous vehicles, arguing it is more scalable and reliable than fully driverless fleets.
