Waymo is recalling 3,791 robotaxis across the U.S. after one of its self-driving vehicles entered a flooded road during severe weather in Texas.

The incident happened on April 20 in San Antonio, where an unoccupied Waymo vehicle reportedly drove into a flooded lane during heavy rain. No injuries were reported, but the company launched an internal review following the event.

Waymo said the recall focuses on improving how its autonomous system handles flooded roads and dangerous weather conditions, especially in areas with higher speed limits.

The company confirmed it has already introduced temporary safety measures, including restricting access to flood-prone areas, refining extreme weather operations, and updating maps used by its vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Waymo is also working on a permanent software fix.

The recall comes as Waymo continues facing scrutiny over several high-profile incidents involving its robotaxis. Previous viral clips showed Waymo vehicles driving onto train tracks in Phoenix and running a red light with passengers inside.
