YouTube is launching a new AI feature that could reshape content creation by allowing users to post videos without ever appearing on camera.

The platform is introducing realistic AI avatars that replicate a creator’s face and voice, enabling them to generate Shorts using a digital version of themselves—essentially acting as a virtual twin.

To create one, users record a “live selfie,” after which they can generate videos by simply typing prompts. These clips can be used within Shorts or turned into full videos.

To prevent misuse, Google says all AI-generated content will be labeled and watermarked, with safeguards against deepfakes. Avatars are restricted to their creators and may be removed if inactive.

The feature is rolling out gradually to selected creators and builds on existing AI tools like auto-dubbing and content generation, signaling a deeper shift toward AI-driven video production.
