YouTube is testing a new AI chatbot designed for users aged 18+, allowing them to ask complex questions and receive curated video recommendations with text summaries.
The feature, called “Ask YouTube,” is currently available to YouTube Premium users in the U.S. as part of a limited test running until June 8. It introduces a conversational search experience that combines videos, Shorts, and written answers into a single response.
Instead of just listing videos, the tool can generate structured results — like a full travel itinerary or a summarized explanation of a topic — alongside timestamped clips that match specific parts of the answer.
The goal is to improve discovery and help users find relevant content and creators more efficiently, with the ability to ask follow-up questions in real time.
For now, access is limited to opted-in Premium users, but YouTube plans to expand the feature more broadly as it continues pushing deeper into AI-driven experiences.
