Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says major AI breakthroughs can come from surprisingly small teams, arguing that a dozen or two elite researchers are often enough to make significant advances.
Speaking on the "No Priors" podcast, Zuckerberg said AI progress depends more on the quality of researchers than the size of a team, despite fierce competition among tech companies to recruit top talent.
He made the comments while discussing Biohub, the nonprofit medical research initiative he runs with his wife, Priscilla Chan. The organization combines cutting-edge AI and biology research with the long-term goal of helping scientists cure, prevent, or manage disease.
Zuckerberg said Biohub offers AI researchers a unique opportunity because it combines frontier AI work with advanced biological research, something he believes few organizations can match.
While expressing optimism that AI could accelerate scientific discoveries and medical breakthroughs, Zuckerberg noted that access to computing power remains a major constraint across the industry.
The Meta chief added that the rapid pace of AI development leaves him feeling both energized and exhausted as the technology continues to advance.
